Description: Larger than the typical schooner of its time, American Union's deep draft got it in trouble more than once. When rounding Presque Isle in a heavy sea the ship ran up on the rocks at Thompson's Harbor and quickly broke apart. Available from May to September, the moorings make for safer diving and also protect shipwrecks from anchor damage. Sanctuary regulations require vessels to use moorings when present.
