Hikng trails through the lake plain forests . Mature red pine and oak forests, aspen-birch forests; cedar-spruce-fir forests; lowland brush and small emergent wetlands. The sandy ridges were formed in the post glacial great lakes that flooded the coastal areas thousands of years ago. Sand spits formed in the shallow waters as waves and currents washed materials across the bedrock bottomland.
