Description: The small schooner Maid of the Mist encountered a strong gale off Huron Beach while awaiting a load of cedar posts. The ship dragged anchor, grounded and broke its keel. Available from May to September, the moorings make for safer diving and also protect shipwrecks from anchor damage. Sanctuary regulations require vessels to use moorings when present.
