Alpena is home to a very rich and exciting history! Come on downtown, pull out your inner sleuth and learn about Alpena’s past. The free self-guided scavenger hunt booklets can be picked up Saturday, October 10th at the Culligan Plaza (Alpena’s downtown fountain), The Centennial Building (Chisholm St/First Ave.) and the George N. Fletcher Alpena County Library (First Ave/Water St.). The scavenger hunt will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once the self-guided tour is completed, participants will take their answers to the Centennial Building to enter for a chance to win local artist, Judy Dawley’s “A Year In Alpena” merchandise from Besser Museum. Participants will lead themselves through downtown Alpena on a hunt to find historic clues and learn about the buildings and businesses that have helped Alpena become what it is today. At 3:00 p.m., local historians will host "Anecdotal Stories from Alpena's Past" at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 124 E. Washington Ave.   For more information, please call the Besser Museum at 989-356-2202.
