The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan houses a large, nationally recognized collection of Native American artifacts.  One of the most significant archaeological finds in this collection is the perfectly round shale discs found only in Alpena. Scholars have aptly named the discs "Naub-Cow-Zo-Win,"meaning "Charms of Personal Significance," in the traditional Algonquin language. http://www.bessermuseum.org/native-american
