Join Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary's Research Coordinator, John Bright, for a presentation on recent shipwreck discoveries in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. In May of 2017, researchers from the sanctuary and the University of Delaware, located two new shipwreck sites in 300 feet of water off the coast of Presque Isle. Throughout the summer, the sanctuary investigated and documented both sites with an array of underwater survey tools, including ROVs and autonomous vehicles. Referencing the data they collected with historical records of vessel lost in this area, both vessels were identified. One was the steel bulk carrier Choctaw, which sank due to collision in 1915. The second vessel was wooden bulk carrier Ohio. Join John at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center for a 'deep dive' into this research and discovery.

*This is a free event and open to all ages. Event will take place in the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center theater.*
