During the middle years of World War II, Michigan was selected as a place for advanced training for African-American Army Air Force units that had graduated from the Tuskegee pilot training program. Unfortunately, as with many similar training programs during World War II, dozens of accidents occurred resulting in the loss of both aircraft and crewmen. Two Tuskegee airplanes have been found in Lake Huron. State Maritime Archaeologist, Wayne Lusardi, will share documenting the sites and the pilot’s stories.
