A day time family event held at Lakeside Park to celebrate our National Flag, and the freedoms for which it stands. Also, it would be a day to memorialize those who have served our Nation and its Flag.

At Lakeside Park, Masons will set up a walkway bordered by American flags from the Liberty Torch to the beach gazebo, and along the shoreline boardwalk from the gazebo to Ontario Street. Sponsors of individual flags, or those memorialized by them, would be recognized by a sign on each flag poles. A charge of $25 would be due for each flag sponsored. Sixty to one hundred twenty flags would be on display. Free hand held flags would be handed out at the start of the parade to participating children. The same flags would be for sale to adults @ $1.

The Kiddie Parade would begin the event at 11 AM at the Mariners Mall, then down Erie Street, then down the Avenue of Flags, and then to the Liberty Torch at the Pavilion. Following assembly, a ceremony highlighted by a speech given by Judge Don Mc Lennan, with the VFW Color Guard raising the flag. The High School band could perform the Star Spangled Banner, sung by Mary Fairbanks, and play other patriotic songs. A display of military uniforms, ranging from the Civil War to Afghanistan, would be presented by the PI County Historical Museum in the pavilion. Entertainment at the band shell might occur after the ceremony, with Ronald Mc Donald presiding. Free ice cream cones for participating children will be offered at the Weenie Wagon. Same to adults @ $1

The Masons Weenie Wagon and BBQ pits will be located in the marina parking lot between the band shell and the pavilion, offering food and beverages for sale from 11 to 6 PM. A Plath’s smoked loin carry out dinner including potato salad, cole slaw, and baked beans for $10 will be featured. Hot dog dinners with the same sides @ $5 would be available for kids. Winners of parade costume categories would receive a free hot dog dinner.

Bill Hanson and Dave Nadolsky will serve as co-chairmen. Bill Hanson will be Flags Chairman for sales and set up. Dave Nadolsky will handle publicity & permits. Dana La Bar is suggested as parade & events chairman. Boyd Haut will be the BBQ pit master. Tim Garrant will be the Weenie Wagon chairman.
