8:30 PM to 10:30 PM

Tonight we will climb the silver ladder of the Moon to the land of the singing sky with the magical music of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Ensemble. Composed of a string quintet with members, John Van Patten, violin; Prudy Kurtz, violin;  Margaret Beck, viola; Marga Eickholt, cello; and Charisse Tietjen, bass; the Ensemble will perform Mozart’s “Eine kleine Nacht Music.”  This “little night music” was written in 1787 for Vienna, and Mozart composed it as a serenade, to be performed probably out-of- doors in the evening~so we will do the same tonight!

Bring camp chairs and picnic blankets and join us as we catch the beautiful dance of Venus, Jupiter and the Moon against a romantic background of stars overhead, while we enjoy the serenade in several movements, interspersed with the history, the poetry, and the stars that inspired it.

“The grand highlight of the summer sky is this meeting of the planets Venus and Jupiter just after sunset,” said Headlands Program Director Mary Stewart Adams. “Tonight they will be very close to one another, as they set with the heart star Regulus, in the region of the regal Lion, Leo. This is the perfect set up for being inspired into starry worlds by the music, the poetry, and the story of the night~and we are just thrilled to partner with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Ensemble for such a stellar evening. This promises to be a terrific event!

Please note that the Ensemble is made of of six pieces, and that the program will go on, regardless of weather (venue will be shifted to the historic church at Heritage Village, directly across from Headlands entrance, should weather dictate).
