Presentation: "WWI As We Knew It" A history of the war from the ground level of a local community.

Presented by: Linda Pletcher, Leer Historical Society
The history of the war from the ground level of the community.

I loved hearing my grandparents and other older people tell stories of the past, and I found that others really enjoyed my retelling of them also. I majored in history and I learned how history was built with both primary and secondary sources. When I retired and moved back to the area, I worked to create a little local history museum, and to present programs in which I shared family and community stories. With the upcoming 100 year anniversary of our entry into World War I, I decided to develop a program concerning our community's involvement in the Great War. Because I know many of the family stories, I am able to share the war experience both at home and abroad through their voices.
