One Night Only...a dark sky event!   Join us for an exciting one night camping event under the stars at the historic Ocqueoc Outdoor Center.  Considered as one of the selected sites for dark sky viewing, participants can choose to pitch a tent or reserve a space in the bunkhouse.  Key presentations by Melissa Kaelin, Founder of Michigan Aurora Chasers and author of, Beyond the 45th Parallel, Melissa will share ancient stories, the myths, legends, and lore of the night skies; and the Aurora Borealis "Northern Lights" as seen in the northern hemisphere.

Patrick Grubba, Astronomer at the Headlands Dark Sky Park, will share his knowledge, scientific explanations, basic astronomy 101 so that participants have a better understanding of the stellar vista viewing up at the night sky.

Participants are encouraged to bring a spotting scope, telescope, red flashlight, all camping gear, star map and/or stargazing app to help identify constellations, planets, and other night objects.

A welcoming reception starts at 3:00pm with dinner starting at 5:00pm, campfire, presentations, guided night viewing, and Sunday morning breakfast.

The event is a Friends of the Ocqueoc Outdoor Center's fund-raiser for the Ocqueoc Outdoor Center for the restoration efforts of this historic CCC camp listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This event is in partnership with the Presque Isle District Library.
