Forest of young aspen, regenerated in 1985 by clearcutting. Apsen responds to clearcutting by growing suckers from the root system aftern a major disturbance such as tornados, fires and logging. If the area is open enough after a distrubance, young apsen shoots will fill in the opening with up to 40,000 stems per acre. Young aspen creates needed habitat form ruffed grouse and deer.
