Site: This is an old Huron Portland Cement kiln dust dump. Today it is naturally overgrown with weeds, grasses and forbs. Roadside parking works well in this rather isolated area.
Birding: Many grassland species nest here: bobolink, eastern meadowlark, both grasshopper and Savannah sparrows. Dickcissel (June-August), raptors year round, April-November turkey vultures, red tailed hawks, winter rough legged hawks; short eared owls (spring sunrise/sunset).
